We’ve put together some helpful info around the most common questions we get asked, from registrations and training to scoring and weather policies.

when and how do i register?

  • Towards the end of the BDNA Autumn/Winter season we will notify when registrations will be open for the following season via the website and team managers.

  • To be eligible to play for the Tigers, players must reside, attend school or work full time in the Bayside City Council boundary. (This is an BDNA requirement).

  • New players can register their interest via the registration link on the website or by clicking here. All existing players will have a MyNetball registration and will be notified when they can register through the MyNetball link.

  • Registrations will have an open and closing time in order for the Committee to organise teams and players well in advance of the BDNA cut-off time.

  • Your registration fee falls in line with participating clubs in the BDNA and is made up of the compulsory Netball Victoria (NV) membership which covers a player for the entire calendar year, and the Club fee which covers expenses such as BDNA team registration fees, bibs, balls & equipment, training and development courses, and end of season trophies.

  • As part of a player’s registration parents/carers are expected to be rostered on to score from time to time and volunteer for at least one BBQ/Canteen duty per year.

  • For more information on registrations please contact Melinda McGregor here.

when are the seasons?

  • The BDNA Autumn/Winter season typically runs from March - September, with grading games commencing in February. Teams are managed by the Tigers Committee including team selection and appointing coaches and team managers.

  • The BDNA Spring season typically runs from October - December. The Tigers Committee has no official capacity as teams are organised by individuals wishing to participate in this shorter season. Uniforms are also not required as it is more of a relaxed competition. It’s a great opportunity to continue playing with friends and improve skills outside of the main BDNA season.

  • All games are played at the home of BDNA at the 11 Holloway Rd in Sandringham. Grade 4 under 11s play on Thursday afternoon, while all other teams (U11-U17) play on Saturday.

what are the age requirements for teams?

  • Tigers follow the age requirements by-laws as set by the BDNA:
    - Participant age is determined as at December 31 of that year. The Association will accept children in the same grade at school whose birthday is after December 31st but before May 1 of the following year.
    - Minimum age requirements are:
    9&U - 7 years
    11&U – 9 years
    13&U – 11 years
    15&U – 12 years
18&U – Must be turning 14 years that year
    Open Sections - 15 year

where do the teams train?

  • All teams train at Holloway Rd, Sandringham. The team manager and coach will coordinate with parents and players on the most appropriate day and time to train.

what is the netsetgo program?

  • Suncorp NetSetGo is Australia’s official starter program for girls and boys aged 5 to 10. It’s a chance to learn the netball basics, get outside and make some friends. For a lot of kids, this is the first time they’ll pick up a netball.

  • The program is divided up into three tiers: Net, Set and Go. Where kids start depends on age and netball experience:
Net – Vixettes for participants 5 - 7 years old and in Prep and or Grade 1.
The program teaches the basic fundamentals of netball in fun and interactive sessions involving netball themed games and dance.

Set – Vixens for participants 8 years old and in Grade 2 and for older participants who have no netball experience. The program focuses on skills and netball themed activities with an emphasis on fun and team work.

Go - Diamonds for participants 9 years old and in Grade 3 who have completed the Vixens program or equivalent at another Association. Participants play a modified game under leader instruction.

  • Any enquiries can be directed to Wendy via sandringhamnetsetgo@gmail.com or phone 0450 669 455 (Monday to Friday 9am to 1.00pm).

how do i purchase a uniform?

what happens if we need a fill in player?

  • You can only get a fill in player if you have less than seven players to take your team to seven – if you have five you can get an extra two.

  • Players can only fill in for a team above in age or grade.

  • A player can only play up for a maximum of four times for the entire season regardless of the team.

  • If they play a fifth game up during the season, they must stay in that team and are not allowed to come back to your team.

  • A player must have played four games during the season with a particular team to qualify to play finals in that team.

  • If you have a Tigers player fill in, they must be added to the front of the scoresheet and also all details completed on the back such as original team name, section and reason.

  • If you have a player from another Association, they must add their Netball Vic Membership number to their details on the back of the scoresheet.

  • If you have a player fill in that doesn’t play anywhere else they need to buy a Day Pass from the BDNA office before they take the court and then add that Day Pass along with all of their details to the scoresheet. They can do that twice for the season before they have to pay Netball Vic Membership for the year which is $66 for juniors and $86 for seniors.

How do we fill in the Scoresheet?

  • The home team must supply a scorer and the away team an observer. Both scorers typically stand at mid court.

  • Please make sure all four quarters are completed even if you don’t fill in the sheet exactly, but remember umpire votes are based on that scoresheet.

  • Add any fill in players to the front and their details on the back.

  • The scoresheet can be picked up after half time in the game before by either side.

  • Both the scorer and observer need to sign the sheet and hand it to the umpire at the conclusion of the game.

what happens if we need to Forfeit?

  • Let our Secretary know as early as possible if you think you won’t have enough players. Forfeiting is a last resort and must be sent to BDNA by Tuesday before otherwise the team will be fined.

  • You must have at least four of your original players and minimum of five players to start a game.

what if we have an issue with an Umpire or parent behaviour?

  • It’s critical that everyone respects and supports the umpire, especially as many are learning for the first time. However, if you any issues or concerns please direct them to the Umpire Supervisors (in fluoro vests) or inside the stadium to the Umpire Coordinator and not directly to the umpires.

  • It’s best not to wait until after the game so that the Umpire Supervisor can observe at the time.

  • If you witness poor parent/carer behaviour please report it to one of the BDNA representatives present and also bring it to the attention of your Team Manager who will report it to the Tigers Committee.

  • For more information on our Code of Conduct please click here.

do we train in Wet weather?

  • The team manager will notify you if training is cancelled as early as possible.

  • Now that we have access the the undercover court at BDNA, it is unlikely we will have to cancel trainings

what is Bdna’s extreme weather policy?

  • In the event of extreme wet weather where it is necessary to cancel all or most of a day's matches you can check to see if your timeslot is playing by either ringing BDNA’s Admin office on 0450 669 455 or checking the BDNA website. If a timeslot is cancelled early it will be on this site one hour ahead of the match time. Under these circumstances teams are not required to report to the courts to sign scoresheets.

  • In all other circumstances teams are required to report to the courts on wet weather days. Unless weather is extreme matches are usually cancelled time slot by time slot. On these days a minimum of five players must be present at the courts ready to play. These five players will be recorded on the scoresheet as being present by the umpires officiating for that match. If both teams have five or more players present then each team will be awarded two points. If one team does not have five or more players present then the four points will be awarded to the team who does have five or more players recorded as attending on the day.

  • Matches very rarely get cancelled through heat. However, if the temperature reaches 33 deg in the shade in theory the match should be suspended. This normally only affects the matches later in the afternoon.
